Making Your Club Commuter Friendly
In a changing world, one may find that what was once community is becoming more centralized. You would think that as we continue to add people to our sprawling communities there would be more jobs. You would think that more entertainment choices would be waiting for you so joining a club couldn't be easier because there would be so much diversification out there just waiting for you.
MRH 120-day Challenge: I hope Tim Warris doesn't sue me for patent infringement....
A month after my first post, I finally get to laying track, starting with the double-track passenger station. I was planning to use Fast Tracks Sweep Sticks + Space Gages to straighten the track and control the spacing, however I discovered that for some reason I only ordered two of the straight Sweep Sticks (ie. 40" total, not enough to lay two parallel 6' tracks. Not really even enough to lay two 3' sections at a time). And here it is, Saturday of a long weekend -- what to do?
layout progress
Here is my little pet project I've been working on. it's a layout to just "tide me over " until the 20X30 space in the next room over gets cleared out. It is a pretty basic setup, with a quarry (brown hill area at far right in overall shot) and some sort of factory (far left rear track) plus an engine terminal (BL2 and SW9 in fron center) behind that is a lumber yard (front right).
The Split Helix is going in and the start of the Main Helix (Basin & Green Valley)
The end of the stage yard that feeds the entire layout.
Challenge Completed!
The Greater Nickel Plate has a brand new work area thanks to the completion of my challenge. A dark, dingy and lifeless basement with an old, run down, dilapidated work bench has been brushed aside - - literally. Starting with a hammer and crowbar, the area was cleared, swept and washed down. A coating of Dri-Lock waterproofing paint added security and helped brighten a dingy cinder block wall (along with some elbow grease) and WD-40 freed up a stubborn window that hadn't been opened in 16 years.
MRH 120 day challenge, Progress report #2
Well, it took a lot of of figuring and a bit of trial and error but I made significant progress on the valance for the new layout. Pictured is one piece of what will be a two piece design. For those of you who were worried about clearance issues when building scenery and working on track, that was a good call and I designed the valance over the main portion of the layout in a two piece removable design.
Starting up again.
I've got a home office that I'm going to use for now. The basement is years away from being available for use. My home office is a spare bedroom 11'7" x 7'10". I now have bracket shelving on three walls. So I'm going to do do a couple of little shelf layouts to experiment with. From all the reading I've done, I've come to the conclusion that my first layout is going to be a failure. No getting around that fact. The main reason is that I don't have the skills to pull off what I want to do.
