VS updates overhead lighting
Latest update on the Virginia Southern:
Removed the upper frame and lighting for the entire layout and replaced with CFL bulbs. The choice was done to clean up the look above the layout, have smoother lighting across and to solve how to light over the transition areas between the decks.
I have also added a Facebook group for the VS: Virginia Southern Model Railroad
As fellow modelers your invited to shoot me a request to join or messages, all are welcome!
New to MRH
Hi Guys
I'm new to MRH, and I’m Kevin, the builder of the Rede Valley Railway. A railway rather than railroad because I'm from the UK.
First Backdrop Nearing Completion
This is just a quick update on some backdrop progress. I'll add more to my main scenery blog later.

Planning Ahead -- sometimes it works
Got my new DCS100 and have been splicing it in. Am thankful that this was a planned change -- although I had not anticipated reaching this point so quickly. Multiple sound locos and the illuminated cars of the Rapido Canadian (a beautiful train, really worth the wait...) did make a dent in the 2.5amp put out by the Zephyr. This becomes a throttle and booster for the yard and the DCS becomes the command station for the layout. Am also installing a BDL168 for block detection in the hidden track areas.
La Grange gets some track & Tortilla Flats gets surveyed
GS&M crews march on...
After the 1st set of track goes into place a Trio of C-630 pulls a tank train from staging up and out of the main Helix.
You can see how the main works it way out of the Helix and into La Grange. The Alcos are on what will become the A/D tracks for La Grange.
MRH 120 day challenge, Progress report # 3
Wow, I wasn't sure this one was ever going to happen! After making the switch from N to HO I made pretty good headway on getting the basic part of the new layout up but then after getting it to the point seen in the second progress report, it was like I hit a brick wall. I just didn't ever seem to feel like working on the layout despite the fact that I've has some mandatory four day work weeks and had scheduled vacation days around the forced unpaid days so I'd have longer weekends.
The 2012 Grand Rapids NMRA Convention
This year's NMRA Convention and National Train Show are being held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is north of Chicago and just enough east to be in the Eastern time zone instead of the Central, as Chicago is.
Getting here was a comedy of airlines that I won't go into, aside from saying that I spent 20 hours Monday and Tuesday in airports and on airplanes and I was very happy to be reunited with my luggage when I returned to my hotel this evening after dinner.
