First build of the season is a fact...
Hi all,
well the first build of the season is a fact. Vector Cut modern dumpster micro kit.
I really enjoyed building this dumpster kit. Not really that hard to build and it made it even easier with the great instructions that came with it.
Still have to build another 2 and then next up will be the painting, decalling and putting it on the layout.
But as a little before taste, a picture of the first dumpster in it's raw state...
Removing factory lettering from Intermountain cars
Hi folks,
I need to replace the color UP logos on several PFE reefers with the black & white logo in order to update them to late 1953. I also need to re-number and change other lettering as well.
UPDATE TO MY PEAVINE SUB LAYOUT

Unique Grain Elevator on the Great Western Railway
One of the signature scenes on the Great Western in northern Colorado is the spot where the GW crosses I-25 just south of US 34 near Loveland. It is named Birds after a local farmer. Besides the really neat overpass that the GW runs across, there is a fairly unique grain elevator. No commercial models of this type exist (I think) so I scratch built a version of it. As far as I know, there were two on the GW, maybe more. I’m sure they may be more in Colorado.

TWO DOWN AND COUNTING
The GRANDE PACIFIC MODEL RR has seen its second eye of a hurricane. Isaac made it very slow pass on Wed morning. I am happy to say this time their was no damage. Gustave in 2008 took all of the new shingles off of roof. This is just another one of those things you have to plan for when building a place for your railroad. Building has now been hit by 125 mph winds. Isaac beat on us for over seven hours with winds of 60 to 70 mph gust. Visit www.grandepacificmodelrr.org and you will see the construction pictures of the building.
New MTH Grade Crossing Gate Syestem
Hey everyone, Now that we have recoverd from the Catzilla incident, I was wondering if anyone has installed the new Grade crossing Gates from MTH. Looks simple enough. Anyone using them or has any info about them? I was thinking of getting 2 sets as i have 2 protected crossings, but as with any thing new, I like to ask the members for any input before I go out and spend close to $400.00. Thanks Guys.

"Model Builder" Building Mock-ups
I’ve been using Evan Designs "Model Builder" software to make building mock ups to fill in some empty spaces until I get time for serious scratch building. Thanks to Rick for mentioning this product when he posted his motel scenes. The following comments show some of them.
